Promote Truth Intentionally: How to Speak Life in Your Family, Workplace, and Community
Hi friends,
Welcome back to The Invested Life! We don’t drift toward truth—we drift toward comfort and compromise. If you want truth to thrive in your family, workplace, and community, you must promote it on purpose.
I’m Dan Cantillana, and today we’re diving into one of the most powerful verses in Scripture and how to live it out every single day.
The Key Verse
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” — Proverbs 18:21
Your words create culture. They either build life or bring death. Here’s how to intentionally promote biblical truth in the three spheres God has called you to lead.
1. Promote Truth in Your Family
- Speak to identity, not insecurity. Catch your family doing things right. Celebrate Christ-like character and obedience instead of only pointing out what’s wrong.
- Correct with clarity, not anger. Discipline is necessary, but anger and shame are not kingdom tools. Step away, cool down, then correct with love.
- Create a culture of Scripture. Share what God is speaking to you. Pray out loud together. Worship as a family. Your kids will watch your walk more than they’ll listen to your words.
2. Promote Truth in the Marketplace
- Lead with integrity. No exaggeration. No manipulation. Just honest business—even when no one is watching.
- Encourage others publicly. Stop and praise the five amazing things happening on your team instead of focusing only on problems.
- Refuse gossip. Walk away, change the subject, or shut it down with humor. Gossip has no place in a kingdom leader’s life.
3. Promote Truth in Your Community
- Stand firm but be gracious. Have strong convictions without anger or belittlement. Listen first and give people the benefit of the doubt.
- Speak hope into broken spaces. Compassion and conviction can live in the same heart—especially when you see real pain in your neighborhood.
- Be a consistent leader. Let your yes be yes and your no be no. Admit mistakes quickly, ask forgiveness, and tell people what you’ll do differently next time.
A Personal Story That Still Speaks Life 32 Years Later
In high school I was the kid whose report cards said “Danny is a pleasure to have in class… talks too much.” My sophomore year was rough, but God used a drama class I didn’t even want to take to change everything.
After one speech, a young lady raised her hand and said, “I don’t know what it is, but when Dan speaks on stage… I have to listen.”
That single sentence of life has carried me through hard moments for over 32 years. Someone spoke truth and encouragement—and it still bears fruit today. Who in your life needs to hear words like that right now?
The Law of 72 Challenge
You have 72 hours to start speaking life on purpose. Pick one area—family, work, or community—and take action this week:
- Start a weekly family meeting
- Publicly encourage someone at work
- Stand firm with grace in your neighborhood or church
Write it down. Pray over it. Do it.
Final Thought
Love well. Do good.
Your tongue has the power of life and death—and those who love it will eat its fruit. Choose life today. Speak truth. Watch your world change.
I love you and I’m cheering for you.
Love well, do good.
